This application is a multimedia tour of "Who Shot Rock & Roll: A Photographic History 1955-Present", a photographic exhibition about the men and women who have photographed one of the most important cultural revolutions ever, rock and roll. The exhibition, on display at the Memphis Brooks Museum of Art, Tennessee's oldest fine arts museum, brings the photographers to the forefront acknowledging their creative and collaborative role in the history of rock music.
The application focuses on 25 of the most iconic photographs ever taken of rock musicians including the Ramones, Bob Dylan, Kurt Cobain and John Lennon. Each image is paired with audio recordings of the photographers providing intimate details of the circumstances surrounding the photographs. Each image can be accessed by inputting content through the keypad, selecting them from a track list or through an easy to use interactive map of the exhibition hall.
Acting as a visitor guide to the museum the application offers information on all museum amenities and events. The guide runs on iPod Touch devices that can be picked up at the visitor information desk.
The Memphis Brooks Museum of Art has since followed up this guide with one for another photographic exhibit, Picturing America, which launched in October. The museum will be launching the guide as a downloadable iPhone and iPod Touch application in early 2011.
